Examiner.com buys NowPublic: Another acquisition in the local space. Examiner.com, a network of user-powered city sites, has acquired the citizen journalism site NowPublic for an undisclosed amount. Examiner.com says its audience has grown more than 200 percent since the beginning of the year and now has more than 15,000 contributors in 109 U.S. cities. PaidContent reports that AP, Fox News, Glam Media and even Technorati were interested in NowPublic, as well.Nope, still isn’t organic enough in my opinion to crack open the hyperlocal market - but its closer than many others I have seen. Such sites need to be managed on a local basis and integrated with at least some social media pull-ins to generate “buzz.” Without it, and its yet destined to be yet another Backfence.com.
