John Keats

stfrancis:

BRIGHT star! would I were steadfast as thou art—
Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night,
And watching, with eternal lids apart,
Like Nature’s patient sleepless Eremite,
The moving waters at their priestlike task
Of pure ablution round earth’s human shores,
Or gazing on the new soft fallen mask
Of snow upon the mountains and the moors—
No—yet still steadfast, still unchangeable,
Pillow’d upon my fair love’s ripening breast,
To feel for ever its soft fall and swell,
Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,
Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,
And so live ever—or else swoon to death.

from the prophet Isaiah

stfrancis:

On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples
                                            a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine,
                                                                      of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined.
                                                     And he will swallow up on this mountain
                                                                                 the covering that is cast over all peoples,
                                                                               the veil that is spread over all nations.

He will swallow up death forever;
                                                                                             and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces,
                                                           and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth,
                                     for the LORD has spoken.
                                                                                                        It will be said on that day,
                                                                                                         “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us.
                             This is the LORD; we have waited for him;
                                                                               let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”

Criticizing Biblical language is one of the arrows in the sling of the rampant empiricist. This, however, cannot be said to be anything other than moving, captivating, and wholly uplifting.

 :: [ NBBJ ] Dalian Shide stadium
Huh. Not sure what I think about this - my initial reaction, without knowing anything about the functionality of the design, is - wow.

This would be my daughter - couldn’t be bothered with such trivial things if a good book beckoned.

BGSU Wolfe Center for the Arts Update, Winter 2008 (via ANSVision)

Was on campus of BGSU this evening - went by location of the new Wolfe Center for the Arts - the latest Snohetta-designed  building in the US. For a college with a rather lackluster architectural collection - this should really be something!

Beautifully minimalistic and intriguing - but nothing that would work in the Midwest from October through April.
